Former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise believes retaining Eden Hazard is a must and revealed what he thinks they can do to ensure itThe Belgian winger is yet to commit his long-term future at Chelsea with his current contract set to expire in June 2020.Hazard has recently teased the possibility of fulfilling a childhood dream of his by signing for Real Madrid, who were strongly linked with a move for him last summer. But Wise reckons a few quality signings along with a top-four finish in the Premier League this season could enough to convince Hazard to stay at Stamford Bridge.“It’s very important to keep him,” Wise told Metro.“I think from a Chelsea point of view if they want to win trophies they need to keep Hazard.
Jose Mourinho is sold on Lampard succeeding at Chelsea Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 14, 2019 Jose Mourinho wanted to give his two cents on Frank Lampard’s odds as the new Chelsea FC manager, he thinks he will succeed. There really…“It’s very important because he’s such a quality player.“Every Chelsea fan would love to keep him and hopefully we can tie him up for longer.“But the important thing from Hazard’s point of view is what other personnel comes in at Chelsea Football Club and whether they can get back into the Champions League.“He wants to play Champions League football – he hasn’t this year – but if they can get that spot for next year and add a couple of top quality players then it can [help] change his mind.“He’d know then that the club can compete because at this moment Manchester City and Liverpool are in front.”Hazard has managed eight goals and six assists in 17 appearances this season for Chelsea, who will face league leaders Manchester City this Saturday.

Here’s how to clean it 3 $999 Apple Huawei Samsung Apple Can the iPhone 11 improve iPhone shipments? Angela Lang/CNET In the war for smartphone market share, Apple’s iPhone seems to be having some trouble. After 12 generations, the iOS device captured only 11% of total market share in the second quarter of 2019, lagging behind Samsung phones, which boasted 22%, according to a blog post Tuesday by Strategy Analytics. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 11 in September. The company on Tuesday said iPhone sales slid 12% to $26 billion in its fiscal third quarter. Despite that, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke of a “significant improvement in iPhone trends.”The latest iPhone line, including the XR, XS and XS Max, didn’t provide much of a differentiated experience compared with previous lines, market research firm Canalys said.Huawei phones, on the other hand, which have basically been stamped with a scarlet letter by the US government over national security fears, also beat out the iPhone, with 17% global market share, Strategy Analytics reported. The impact of the China ban on Huawei shipments is likely to be felt next quarter, said Tarun Pathak, associate director at market research firm Counterpoint Research.”The effect of the ban did not translate into falling shipments during this quarter, which will not be the case in the future,” Pathak said. “In the coming quarters, Huawei is likely to be aggressive in its home market and register some growth there, but it will not be enough to offset for the decline in its overseas shipments.” His firm’s research noted that smartphone shipments have declined collectively by 4.3 million units year over year, and the combined global smartphone market share of major Chinese smartphone brands, ranging from Huawei to Xiaomi, has reached its peak market share of 42%, despite trade setbacks. The new rankings from Strategy Analytics, Canalys and Counterpoint Research come at a time when global smartphone shipments have declined for seven consecutive quarters, and phones have become engulfed in the US-China trade war. Latest numbers by the federal reserve show that US GDP is slowing down as a result of tariff tensions. The largest declines in smartphone sales for 2019 are expected to be in Japan, Western Europe and North America, according to global research and advisory firm Gartner. The firm emphasized that it expects smartphone sales to regain growth in 2020 with newer releases of 5G models. Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Lakshmi’s NTRScreenshot of YouTube videoDirector RGV aka Ram Gopal Varma has taken a U-turn on the controversy of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) declining to certify Lakshmi’s NTR for release.Lakshmi’s NTR is a controversial biopic which chronicles how Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu backstabbed his late father-in-law Nandamuri Tarak Rama Rao for power. The film is set to hit the screens on March 22. Many people in the Telugu states were wondering whether the CBFC will clear it for release without any cuts/mutes.Ram Gopal Varma has now alleged that the CBFC is delaying Lakshmi’s NTR due to political pressure. The director tweeted on Sunday, “Censor board is illegally acting on outside pressure and that’s why we are filing a case in court. CBFC in trying to delay the film for reasons of favouring someone is strangely relying on model code of conduct meant for political parties and contesting candidates #LakshmiNTR.”Ram Gopal Varma expressed his anguish over the CBFC playing the role of Election Commission (EC). He tweeted, “CBFC is assuming the jurisdiction of Election Commission which is not vested in it and is withholding certification of #LakshmiNTR and constitutionally it cannot partake the role of Election Commission.”The controversial filmmaker said that the EC itself has no authority to stall the release of any film. Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, “Election Commission derives its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution which empowers it to regulate the Election process the conduct of contesting candidates and Political parties and it has no jurisdiction on exhibition of films #LakshmiNTR.”Ram Gopal Varma had also denied that Lakshmi’s NTR would favour any political party. The director tweated, “#LakshmiNTR By refusing to watch #LakshmisNTR by assuming what might be in the film, It is clear that CBFC is over reaching its authority in trying to favour someone.”Ram Gopal Varma added, “The CBFC has no authority to postpone watching the film on the ground of model code for conduct even before viewing, which amounts to a blatant violation of fundamental right of Freedom of Expression guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution of India.”The filmmakers also revealed that he would hold a press meet on Monday to explain the issue in detail. Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, “Me and my advocate Mr. Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy are going to address a press meet tmrw 18th mrng 10 AM at Prasad lab to reveal about CBFC ILLEGALLY TRYING TO STOP #LakshmisNTR ..We will be telling the details about how it will be dragged to court.”Minutes later, Ram Gopal Varma surprised everyone by saying that the matter has been solved. He announced, “There has been an unfortunate misunderstanding between our office and the CBFC which has now been cleared ..The CBFC is now doing the necessary action as per the laid down procedure ..Hence our press meet against the CBFC is cancelled ..Jai NTR #LakshmiNTR.”This sudden U-turn of Ram Gopal Varma has raised many eyebrows in the film industry. Some feel that it must be the publicity stunt of the director, who is known for his crazy promotional strategies.Ram Gopal Varma had also released a letter with the headline – “I am filing a case on the Censor Board for illegally stopping Lakshmi’s NTR.” In this letter, the director had blasted the CBFC and revealed his decision to drag it to the court. Here is his detailed letter.

Arun JaitleyReutersThe government will bring in soon a new law to regulate chit fund schemes to protect investors, Finance minister Arun Jaitley said on the floor of Lok Sabha on Thursday. The idea of the new pan-India law on chit funds is to ensure that those who are lured into these schemes by the marginally higher interest rates that they offer as compared to banks are not taken for a ride.”SEBI is looking into the existing chit fund cases. There are state laws to deal with them in Bengal and Odisha. But what to do with those who run operations throughout the country? We are drafting a central law and very soon we will bring it before you,” the minister told the house. Moreover, FM said that safer investment instruments such as the Pradhan Mantri Vyaya Vandana Yojana (PMVYY) that offers senior citizens an 8.3% fixed rate of return are being made available.Jaitley also expressed confidence that lending rates will come down in the economy, as high rates will only keep the industry uncompetitive and consequently discourage investments.FM also defended State Bank of India’s (SBI) decision to cut the interest rate on savings accounts of less than Rs 1 crore, saying the move was in sync with the reduction in lending rate.RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on Wednesday cut repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) to six percent, the lowest in last seven years, primarily due to a steeper-than-anticipated fall in inflation and maintained a neutral policy stance.Replying to a debate on the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2017, the minister said that there needs to be a political consensus as well as the will to address the problem of non-performing assets (NPAs), as state-owned banks seeking to honestly address the problem through certain steps were facing the anxiety of being questioned about their decisions by investigative agencies years later, business daily Mint reported.Jaitley said the Reserve Bank has already identified top 12 loan defaulters and more cases will be taken up by them for resolution. The Reserve bank of India (RBI) has already identified the top 12 loan defaulters for bankruptcy resolution, but some of the promoters have objected to the defaulting companies being referred to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) by banks for insolvency resolution, arguing that the lenders’ move was arbitrary.”No one can claim the right of equality in not paying banks back. RBI has taken up some difficult cases… I am sure they will take up more,” Jaitley said. The Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2017, seeks to amend the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 and replace the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2017, which was promulgated in May this year.Earlier on Wednesday NCLT has admitted petition submitted by SBI and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) to initiate insolvency proceedings against Essar Steal that owes around Rs 37,000 crore to banks.

Brenton Tarrant, the man charged in relation to the Christchurch massacre appear in the dock charged with murder in the Christchurch District Court on 16 March 2019. Photo: AFPA right-wing extremist who filmed himself on a rampage that left 49 mosque-goers dead flashed a white power sign as he appeared in a New Zealand court Saturday charged with murder.Australian-born 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant stood in the dock wearing handcuffs and a white prison smock, as the judge read a single murder charge against him. A raft of further charges were expected. The former fitness instructor and self-professed fascist occasionally turned to look at media present in court during the brief hearing that the public were excluded from for security reasons.Flanked by armed police he flashed an upside-down “okay” signal, a symbol used by white power groups across the globe. He did not request bail and was taken into custody until his next court appearance which is scheduled for5 April.A short distance away, 39 people were being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds and other injuries inflicted in the massacre. They included a two-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, who is in critical condition.Doctors at Christchurch hospital said they worked through the night in 12 operating theatres to do what they could to save the survivors. For many, the road to recovery will require multiple surgical procedures and many survivors said the mental scars may never fully heal. The attack on the Al Noor and Linwood mosques has been labelled terrorism by prime minister Jacinda Ardern and is thought to be the deadliest attack directed against Muslims in the West in modern times.Outside the court, the son of 71-year-old Afghan victim Daoud Nabi demanded justice for his late father, who believed New Zealand to be a “slice of paradise.””It’s outrageous, the feeling is outrageous,” he said. “It’s beyond imagination.”Ardern said the victims came from across the Muslim world, with Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia among the countries rendering consular assistance. One Saudi citizen and two Jordanians were among the dead, while five Pakistani citizens were missing.Grief and shockThe attack has prompted an outpouring of grief and deep shock in this usually peaceful and hospitable country, which prides itself on welcoming refugees fleeing violence or persecution.Although shops were shuttered and many decided to stay at home, Christchurch residents piled bouquets of flowers at a makeshift memorial near the Al Noor mosque, many accompanied with handwritten letters laden with sadness and disbelief.”I am so sorry that you were not safe here. Our hearts are breaking for your loss,” read one of the notes marked with a string of x-kisses.Ardern, who arrived in Christchurch Saturday, said the shooter was not on any watchlist and did not have a criminal record.”The offender was in possession of a gun licence” obtained in November 2017, and he started purchasing the weapons the following month, she said. Two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and lever-action gun were used in the attacksTwo improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found in a car and neutralised by the military, while police raided a home in the southern city of Dunedin, where Ardern said the suspect was based.”While work is being done as to the chain of events that led to both the holding of this gun licence and the possession of these weapons, I can tell you one thing right now — our gun laws will change,” she said. The suspect documented his radicalisation and two years of preparations in a lengthy, meandering and conspiracy filled far-right “manifesto”.He live-streamed footage of himself going room-to-room, victim to victim, shooting the wounded from close range as they struggled to crawl away in the main Christchurch mosque.Thirty-six minutes after the police received the first call, Tarrant was in custody.Commissioner Mike Bush hailed the “absolute bravery” of both police and members of the public “who put themselves in harm’s way” to apprehend the suspect.”Their intervention may very likely have saved further lives.”Two other people remain in custody, although their link to the attack is not clear. One man, an 18-year-old Alexander Bryan has been charged with incitement.Another person who was earlier arrested was said to be a member of the public carrying a firearm who was trying to help.’Horrible massacre’Tributes to the victims poured in from around the world.US president Donald Trump condemned the “horrible massacre” in which “innocent people have so senselessly died”, but denied that the problem of right-wing extremism was widespread.Speaking in Sydney, Australian prime minister Scott Morrison described the gunman as “an extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist”.New South Wales police commissioner Mick Fuller said police had visited Tarrant’s childhood home in the town of Grafton, north of Sydney, and spoken to family members as part of their investigation. The attack has prompted searching questions about whether right-wing extremism has been treated with enough seriousness by Western governments.Ali Soufan, a former high-ranking FBI counter-terrorism agent, said the threat needs to be treated with the same seriousness as jihadist violence.”We are in the midst of a surge of right-wing terrorism that has been metastasising in plain sight while generating only a muted response from domestic counter-terrorism authorities,” he said.Ardern said she would be reviewing events leading up to the attack to see how the suspect went unnoticed by authorities.”The individual charged with murder had not come to the attention of the intelligence community, nor the police, for extremism,” she said.”I have asked our agencies this morning to work swiftly on assessing whether there was any activity on social media or otherwise, that should have triggered a response. That work is already underway.”

Share Andres Kudacki/APA group gathered outside the Manhattan District Attorney’s office on Oct. 13 protests the DA’s decision not to prosecute Harvey Weinstein in connection with a 2015 incident involving a model. The experience of reporting sexual harassment has changed radically in a few weeks.Widespread allegations of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconduct touched off a torrent of other public allegations that are now toppling some powerful figures across many industries. That list includes NPR’s top editor, Michael Oreskes, who was fired last month amid allegations of sexual harassment. Now, many victims find themselves holding a very loud microphone. That has been the case for Eden Rohatensky, a Montreal-based Web developer and musician who, until recently, dealt with workplace sexual harassment and assault alone.“I didn’t know what would happen to me if I did speak up,” Rohatensky says. “There was no way for me to know. The more times that it happened, and there wasn’t consequences, the more scared I became of speaking up.”Then, last month, Rohatensky posted an essay on the website Medium. Rohatensky’s former employer, Vox Media, identified one of the accused as editorial director Lockhart Steele, who was then fired.“I’m glad that it did happen, and that it’s making an impact and it’s helping other people. I don’t regret that,” Rohatensky says. “But it was surprising. It was very strange to have this type of closure in front of the world.”As more victims break their silence and discuss their allegations publicly, the power dynamic is shifting. Going public is a way of seeking redress by victims who — for whatever reason — lack faith in the normal institutional channels. And doing so has the effect of rapidly shifting the blame and shame to those who stand accused.“I don’t think of it as public shaming,” says Jennifer Lawless, director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University. “I think of it as women calling out the men who behaved inappropriately and illegally.”For Lawless, this is a long-awaited moment. She recalls Anita Hill’s famous testimony, decades ago, alleging sexual harassment by Clarence Thomas, during his Supreme Court confirmation.Hill’s account of sexual harassment was also a big public moment for many victims, Lawless says. But, she says, “It was easy for that to sort of die down and fade away, because in 1991 and 1992, we didn’t have this instantaneous way of transmitting information.”Around that same time, in the early 1990s, Jaclyn Friedman was sexually assaulted when she was a college student. For her, going public meant etching her rapist’s name on a list of “men to avoid” on a stall in the women’s bathroom in hopes of warning others.“It felt powerful; it felt like it was a thing I could do, and that maybe it was going to keep somebody safe,” she says. “It felt like some tiny piece of power.”She says the outspoken victims of today are extending that “whisper network” to a wider circle. After the Weinstein allegations surfaced, a Google document listing names and allegations against media executives and others started making the rounds.Friedman applauds that, but says she herself has yet to name her perpetrators online.“I absolutely think it would feel empowering. It would also be terrifying. The reason I don’t do it is because I expect that if I named either of them I would be sued,” Friedman says. And there are legal obstacles to making public accusations. Sexual misconduct is often hard to prove. People making accusations can be sued for libel, and so can those who repeat false allegations. And plenty of victims still cannot speak publicly because they signed non-disclosure agreements.Take Beth, a New York City woman who gave up her law career a decade ago, after her superior harassed her, then retaliated against her. She says she can’t name her perpetrator because she signed a non-disclosure agreement as part of her three-month severance settlement.“I want my name attached to it,” she says. “And I want this guy shaking in his shoes. I want him to be scared, and I want the people at the firm who helped cover this whole thing up to be scared.”She says if she faced a similar situation today, she, too, would speak out.Copyright 2017 NPR. More information: www.ewi.tudelft.nl/en/current/ewicon/www.mecanoo.nl/Default.aspx?ta … ailId=847&pcode=A498 Citation: Researchers team up with architects to create bladeless wind electricity generator (2013, April 3) retrieved 18 August 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2013-04-team-architects-bladeless-electricity.html (Phys.org) —Faculty members at Delft University in the Netherlands have teamed up with architectural firm Mecanoo to develop a new way to generate electricity using wind energy. The result is the Electrostatic WInd-energy CONvertor, (EWICON)—a windmill with no moving mechanical parts. Its creators say that it makes no noise, won’t break down or cast a shadow and it won’t cause bird deaths—all problems associated with traditional wind turbines. Toward super-size wind turbines: Bigger wind turbines do make greener electricity Traditional wind turbines take advantage of moving air to convert kinetic energy into mechanical energy to create electricity. This new windmill uses a different process altogether. It looks rather like a giant tennis racket with an insulated base instead of a hand grip. It takes advantage of wind moving over the inner grid—positively charged water particles are carried (via spraying) away from the small inner tube mesh, leaving negatively charged particles behind. That causes a decrease in the voltage of the system and allows for electricity to be captured. The design is simple enough that the frame can be any shape desired and allows for windmills of virtually any size, though the researchers acknowledge that a certain size must be used to cause the creation of more electricity than is used to pump the water. Explore further © 2013 Phys.org Deriving electricity from wind has met with some resistance in some parts of the world—to be of real use, turbines must be very large, and whole farms of them constructed. Many consider such farms to be an eyesore and say the noise they create causes health problems. The EWICON in contrast, is silent and some suggest it actually looks like a piece of art. Traditional wind turbines also require a lot of maintenance and are frequently damaged by high winds or lightning. Because the EWICON has no moving parts, it should be less prone to damage from wind, though it would seem to be just as likely to suffer damage from lightning. The researchers have not yet divulged just yet how efficient the EWICON is, nor whether the new kind of windmill would have to be deployed in vast farms to make them cost effective. Currently the only one built so far is a small prototype that sits in front of the EWI faculty building in the Mekelpark powering a big neon sign. This document is subject to copyright.
