As part of celebration activities marking the country’s 168th Independence Day, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Sinkor Old Road branch donated several items to at least eight mothers who had just given birth on the auspicious occasion of Liberia’s 168th independence anniversary.Pastor Majek Folorunsho, who made the donations to the baby mothers at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center in Sinkor on July 26, informed the beneficiaries that items presented to them was the church’s way of identifying with mothers who have just delivered babies at the hospital, especially during the July 26 festive season. He did not disclose value of the donated items, but said it was God that made the project realize a vision to identify with the mothers, noting that the best celebration for this day is to identify with the needy, sick and those that are afflicted.“Children are blessings from God, but being born on the birthday of their country is a double joy for the family and we are happy to share that joy also with their parents,” Pastor Folorunsho said.He said Liberians should see their country’s independence anniversary as a day to reflect upon individual life success, and the level of contribution one can make to redeem Liberia by making the country better at all times. The Items that were donated to the babies’ mothers included sanitary materials, detergents and a single set of baby-tub to the kids that were delivered first. In many cases, he said, only few people can have that immediate support to care for their newly born baby; that is why it was necessary for the church to intervene.Pastor Folorunsho called on the public to exhibit charity to their fellow Liberians that are in need, because their failure to do so would be interpreted as disregard to their plight.Pastor Folorunsho noted that his church would continue praying for peace in Liberia, asking the Heavenly Father for more blessings and prosperity.Asatu Diallo, the mother of the baby who received the tub expressed gratitude to the church leadership for the gift items, adding that the kind gesture from the church was an indication that God work in mysterious ways.Asatu said the assistance from the church was timely for the mothers and it will go a long way for some of them.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)

Breaks ground for for Vocational Training SchoolVice President Jewel Howard–Taylor has decried the under-development of Fuamah District in Lower Bong County at the total cost of the project is US$150,000, LINA Correspondent Richard Baysah reports. The Vice President said as a result of the under-development of Fuamah, she will strive to ensure that it receives the much-needed attention to move the district forward.According to the LINA, Vice President Taylor made the statement on Friday, October 12 when she broke ground for the construction of the Fuamah Vocational Training Institute in Bong Mines, Lower Bong County. The program which is initiated by the Vice President, is being done in partnership with NetLib Vocational Training School in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, and other public and private corporate entities, including the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), ArcelorMittal, Monrovia Breweries, MNG Gold Mining Corporation, and the LISCR Trust Company. When constructed, Madam Taylor said, the Fuamah Vocational Training School will give young people employable skills that will improve their livelihoods. She said Fuamah plays host to the biggest mining investment company, China Union, Liberia Bong Mining Company, and as a result of not having vocational and technically trained youths, they always venture elsewhere for the requisite ones they desire to employ, thus depriving citizens of the district the right to employment with the company.“No one should ever see this as a political plus or gimmick, but must see it as a channel through which our younger generation will gain meaningful vocational and technical skills that will transform their lives for the betterment of our country,” she said.District Representative Joseph Papa Kolleh expressed gratitude for the initiative, terming it as “very timely for the people of Fuamah District.”Kolleh assured Vice President Taylor of his full support, and called on his people to get involved in the growth and development of the district. “There can be no easy way or a single person initiating any form of meaningful development in an area without the involvement of others,” Rep. Kolleh said.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
