    first_imgWNY News Now / MGN Stock Image.MAVYVILLE – Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chautauqua County from this past weekend.The County Health Department says there is now a total of 271 total cases with ten active, with zero hospitalized from the virus.The new cases involve a man and two women in their 20s, a man and woman in their 30s, two men in their 40s and a woman in her 50s.There are also now 84 people in quarantine or isolation orders by the Public Health Director and being monitored. Officials say not all of those being monitored are confirmed to have COVID-19 but have either shown symptoms, are awaiting results, or have risk factors. The county reporters 1,178 people under a domestic traveler quarantine for having arrived to Chautauqua County from a state listed on the New York State travel advisory.Since the outbreak began nine deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported and 252 people have recovered. But there’s a way to do it safely and wisely, said David Dickens, professor of forest productivity with University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.Stey by step“Prioritize your chores by starting to work on trees that endanger buildings, other valuable structures and fences first with proper care, safety equipment and knowledge,” he said. “If you are hesitant or think you may be hurt removing downed trees, then contact a reputable tree company.”Don’t attempt to handle trees that overhang or touch power lines, he said. Call local utility company professionals for assistance.“Many people are injured while trying to clean up debris after tornadoes and hurricanes,” Dickens said. “Ideally, it’s best to hire a reputable professional.”Tree lossUprooted trees will often die.“Medium to large trees that have been uprooted with severe lean (greater than 60 degrees from vertical) have little chance of surviving because the broken roots that used to structurally support the top weight and nourishment of the tree are damaged,” he said.Tackle unsightly, damaged trees next. For example, Bradford pear trees are prone to split. “This type of injury is difficult to reshape and the lopsided weight can cause the tree to blow over with soft wet ground and a gusty wind,” he said. He recommends removing severely misshapen trees and replanting a tree with better structure.Remove and replace“You may have to crank up the chainsaw for the removal of an old favorite tree, but take this opportunity to consider carefully the next tree and select one that has a stronger design,” he said. “Live oak is an example of a sturdy tree that can withstand more severe winds.”Broken limbs that are still attached to tree crowns should be properly trimmed. Leave a pruning cut that is flush to the next larger limb or main trunk.     first_imgBlue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont today announced a new collaboration with Choice Care Card of Waterbury, Vermont to offer employer-funded medical reimbursement arrangements used to cover out-of-pocket health care-related expenses.The collaboration with Choice Care Card will allow Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont’s group customers to integrate their Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) with their health plan, according to company officials.HRAs work with any type of health benefit plan but are typically paired with a high-deductible or higher co-pay health plan ‘ plans much less expensive than comprehensive full coverage plans – to yield the greatest cost savings to the employer. The employer then uses the premium savings from the higher deductible or higher co-pay plan to fund a debit card for each employee with a predetermined amount of money that they can use to cover out-of-pocket health care related expenses like deductibles, office visits, and prescription co-pays.Prior to this new collaboration with Choice Care Card, Blue Cross and Blue Shield customers needed to select an HRA vendor separately and employees were required to submit documentation to substantiate their claims.     first_imgDespite the strict protocols in place surrounding the burial of victims and suspected victims of COVID-19 there have been a number of incidents reported recently of family and friends forcibly carrying off the bodies of dead patients from hospitals to be buried according to their own wishes.On June 3, hundreds of people descended on Dadi Hospital in Makassar, South Sulawesi, to take away the body of a patient under surveillance (PDP) who died two days after being admitted to the hospital.Hospital director Arman Bausat confirmed the incident, saying that the hospital could not do much to prevent the removal as some of those at the scene were armed with sharp weapons. CCTV footage showed seven people entering the intensive care unit (ICU) room and immediately taking the body away. “If we had prevented them, there may have been undesirable consequences. So, I instructed [the medical staff] to let them go just to avoid bloodshed,” Arman told kompas.com last Thursday.The patient had been previously admitted to Akademis Jaury Hospital and was transferred to Dadi Hospital after showing symptoms of coughing, severe fever, shortness of breath and vomiting.Arman said his hospital had yet to take samples of the patient for examination. Before the body was taken away, Dadi Hospital and the task force were planning to bury it at the Maccanda Cemetery in Gowa regency under COVID-19 protocols.Four days later, on Sunday evening, about 150 people flocked Stella Maris Hospital also in Makassar to forcibly remove the body of a PDP, a woman in her 50s who had died hours after showing severe symptoms. Ibrahim Tompo said that removing dead bodies without the hospital’s approval was a criminal act.“It is criminal, especially when it can affect the wider community, and we will investigate further,” Ibrahim said.In Surabaya, East Java, a video that recently went viral appeared to show both the dead body of a COVID-19 patient and a hospital bed being removed from a hospital by people in Semampir district.Semampir district head Siti Hindun Robba Humaidiyah said the incident happened on June 4, adding that the patient’s family insisted on taking the body home as they believed that the patient did not die from COVID-19.“They denied it was COVID-19, even though the result of the patient’s swab test was positive,” Siti said.District officials, community health center staff and local figures later visited the family to ask that the body be buried according to the COVID-19 protocols, to which they finally agreed. DAW was treated for four days at the hospital but his condition deteriorated.The body was buried by the family at midnight on Sunday but not in compliance with health protocols.Yogyakarta State University (UNY) sociologist Amika Wardhana said such incidents happened for at least two reasons; deeply rooted religious and cultural beliefs surrounding death and Indonesians’ apathy regarding the pandemic.“In the Indonesian tradition, among all religions and cultures, death is an important stage in life. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 burial protocols are very simple and fast, which some may see as culturally disrespectful and unacceptable,” he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.Moreover, he said, the government’s poor handling of such critical situations had led to imperfect understanding among the public of the pandemic and even disbelief that the country was facing a serious and rapidly spreading disease.On Tuesday afternoon Indonesia recorded its highest daily number of 1,043 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 33,076, with 1,923 fatalities. Picture: AAP Photo/Josh Woning.NIGHTMARE tenants are leaving property investors thousands of dollars out of pocket, with a surge in the number of landlords trying to claw back unpaid rent and property damage costs.One of the nation’s biggest debt collection agencies has seen a near 30 per cent jump in the number of claims from its clients across Queensland in the past 12 months, at a time when investors are already dealing with rising interest rates, tougher lending restrictions and harsher tax rules.And it’s not just tenants in the state’s lower socio-economic regions who are to blame.High-income earning renters in Brisbane’s affluent suburbs are also leaving investors high and dry — costing them up to $45,000 a pop in some cases.According to Barclay MIS Protect and Collect Australasia, which has 40,000 Queensland landlords and about 1000 real estate agencies on its books, regions where claims have increased include areas hit hard by the mining downturn and unemployment including Townsville and Mackay, followed by the lower socio-economic hot spots of Caboolture, Beenleigh and Logan.But some of the biggest claims have come from high income, high rent suburbs including Red Hill, Paddington, Toowong, Samford, Kenmore and Aspley.
