Barcelona striker Luis Suarez declares that it is possible Barcelona were a bit overconfident against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. After just 11 minutes into the match, the 31-year-old striker got Barcelona off to a great start by slotting home the opener. But, goals scored by Jose Pozo and Alvaro Garcia had the hosts looking set for all three points until Barca came with a dramatic comeback and changed everything.“It may be that there was an excess of confidence,”Fati and Suarez shine against Valencia at Camp Nou Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 15, 2019 With a mesmerizing first half from Ansu Fati and a brace from Luis Suarez in the second half, Barcelona demolished Valencia at Camp Nou.Valencia…”We also have to give credit to the opponent, who are in need of points.”The important thing was that we turned it around and got the three points, now we have to self-evaluate,” according to Marca.Being the centre figure during the match in absence of Lionel Messi, Suarez is in great form currently, having scored six goals and made three assists in his last five games. read more
Best Buy Mobile Galaxy Fold is back, NBC readies new streaming service Aug 31 • iPhone XR vs. iPhone 8 Plus: Which iPhone should you buy? Aug 31 • Your phone screen is gross. Here’s how to clean it 3 $999 Apple Huawei Samsung Apple Can the iPhone 11 improve iPhone shipments? Angela Lang/CNET In the war for smartphone market share, Apple’s iPhone seems to be having some trouble. After 12 generations, the iOS device captured only 11% of total market share in the second quarter of 2019, lagging behind Samsung phones, which boasted 22%, according to a blog post Tuesday by Strategy Analytics. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 11 in September. The company on Tuesday said iPhone sales slid 12% to $26 billion in its fiscal third quarter. Despite that, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke of a “significant improvement in iPhone trends.”The latest iPhone line, including the XR, XS and XS Max, didn’t provide much of a differentiated experience compared with previous lines, market research firm Canalys said.Huawei phones, on the other hand, which have basically been stamped with a scarlet letter by the US government over national security fears, also beat out the iPhone, with 17% global market share, Strategy Analytics reported. The impact of the China ban on Huawei shipments is likely to be felt next quarter, said Tarun Pathak, associate director at market research firm Counterpoint Research.”The effect of the ban did not translate into falling shipments during this quarter, which will not be the case in the future,” Pathak said. “In the coming quarters, Huawei is likely to be aggressive in its home market and register some growth there, but it will not be enough to offset for the decline in its overseas shipments.” His firm’s research noted that smartphone shipments have declined collectively by 4.3 million units year over year, and the combined global smartphone market share of major Chinese smartphone brands, ranging from Huawei to Xiaomi, has reached its peak market share of 42%, despite trade setbacks. The new rankings from Strategy Analytics, Canalys and Counterpoint Research come at a time when global smartphone shipments have declined for seven consecutive quarters, and phones have become engulfed in the US-China trade war. Latest numbers by the federal reserve show that US GDP is slowing down as a result of tariff tensions. The largest declines in smartphone sales for 2019 are expected to be in Japan, Western Europe and North America, according to global research and advisory firm Gartner. The firm emphasized that it expects smartphone sales to regain growth in 2020 with newer releases of 5G models. Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Frank Murkowski is again pitching a rail link between Canada and Alaska, an old idea the former senator and governor worked on when he was in office.Listen nowNow Murkowski is back, as a special envoy working under the current governor to get talks on the rail link on track. He spoke at a luncheon Wednesday put on by World Trade Center Anchorage.“You know, there’s a lot of potential in Alaska,” Murkowski said. “The problem always is getting it off the ground and getting it under way.”The rail link would be used to export Canada’s vast deposits of bitumen, a black viscous mixture of hydrocarbons packed with energy.“The bitumen that is in this huge deposit has been identified in volumes that are a little hard to comprehend, they’re so significant,” Murkowski said. There are different proposed routes for the rail construction from Alberta to Alaska and also at least two options for where to take the bitumen from there. One is to offload it in Interior Alaska at Delta Junction, treat it, ship it through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline to Valdez and, ultimately, Asian markets.Another option is to send it by rail to Port MacKenzie in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, which desperately needs a project of that scale to complete a rail link to the port and generate revenue. Bitumen exported from Port MacKenzie would also likely go to Asian markets.Murkowski said there has been no decision made yet on whether Delta or Port Mac is the better option.“Well, it could be both, very frankly,” Murkowski said. “The decision as to what route is going to be conceived, if indeed it is going to be developed, is going to be dependent on the economics, in other words, where do you get the highest return on your product?”As for the overall rail link project, Murkowski said there are many more details to iron out before the old idea can become reality. read more
Andrew Kurka’s first place finish in the men’s downhill race was also the first medal ever for an Alaskan athlete at the Winter Paralymic Games. (Photo courtesy of Andrew Kurka)Andrew Kurka’s first place finish in the men’s downhill race on Friday was the first medal ever for an Alaskan athlete at the Winter Paralympic Games.Listen now“The fact that I came out here and I put down the very first Paralympic medal for Alaska, my home state, and the fact that it’s gold, to me is a fantastic feeling,” Kurka said in a release by Team USA.Kurka started dreaming of the Olympics when he was just eight years old.Kurka grew up in Palmer, spending his summers as a kid fishing. (Photo courtesy of Andrew Kurka)“I was an avid wrestler– always competing, always being active,” Kurka explained.Kurka grew up in Palmer and put everything he had into wrestling. He was a six-time state wrestling champion by the time he was a teenager. But then, at 13, his Olympic dreams came crashing down. Kurka was out on a fishing trip at Jim Creek when his 4-wheeler flipped and landed on top of him.Kurka broke his back and was paralyzed from the waist down. He said that’s when a physical therapist encouraged him to try Paralympic skiing.“I loved it and I dedicated everything to it. I knew I wanted to be the best skier in the world,” Kurka said.Kurka qualified for the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia when he was 22 years old.But then, another accident. In his first downhill training run in Sochi, Kurka crashed and broke his back again.“My Sochi experience– my very first Paralympic experience [and] the chance for me to really prove myself and make all my dreams come from– definitely fell short when I broke my back in the first downhill training run,” Kurka said.Kurka called the experience a black cloud. He said it hung over him for years. But he went to more physical therapy and got back on the ski slopes.Just last year, Kurka won gold in downhill at the World Championships Italy.“Winning my very first world championship was a huge honor,” Kurka said. “It felt like a bit of the weight from Sochi had been lifted off my shoulders.”So it’s no surprise that Kurka came to the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea with a medal on his mind.(Photo courtesy of Andrew Kurka)After nearly two decades, Kurka’s dream came true on Friday. The wrestler turned skier won gold in the men’s downhill, earning the first medal ever from the Winter Paralympic Games for his home state of Alaska.“This right here is redemption,” Kurka said in the Team USA statement. “I wouldn’t change Sochi. I wouldn’t change anything that’s happened throughout my life. It’s all a journey and this is my journey to gold.”And Kurka’s journey didn’t stop with gold. The next day, Kurka won silver in the super giant slalom, or super-G, on Saturday.Kurka plans to compete in two more events at the Paralympic Games– the men’s super combined super-G on Tuesday and giant slalom on Wednesday. read more

Zaheer Iqbal, Pranutan in NotebookTwitterAt a special screening of Notebook prior to the release, Bollywood celebrities undeniably touted the Nitin Kakkar directorial as a feel-good film that leaves a mark. Receiving a thumbs up from American YouTube sensation Amanda Cerny along with Jacqueline Fernandez, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Sidharth Malhotra, Remo D’Souza, Sonakshi Sinha, Iulia Vantur, and Sangeeta Bijlani, Notebook struck the right chord with the celebrities. And in addition to it, the movie has also received positive reviews from critics as well.Marking the debut of Zaheer Iqbal, Pranutan, Notebook showcases the journey of Kabir who finds his love in a woman Pranutan, who wrote her story in a Notebook. Eventually, the book falls in his hand when he is employed to teach six kids in a remote location of Kashmir, thereby tracing Kabir’s his emotional voyage to reach for Firdaus. Produced by Salma Khan, Murad Khetani, and Ashwin Varde, Notebook is directed by national award winning director Nitin Kakkar. And after watching Notebook, critics couldn’t help but shower praises upon the new talents Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan for their debut performance. While the critics found the film’s storyline quite fresh and visually appealing, they felt that somewhere down the line, the screenplay and dialogues felt short in heightening the drama to requisite levels. Take a look. The Times Of India: “‘Notebook’ is an easy watch where you can appreciate the humour, drama and romance. But the film leaves you wanting for more. Perhaps with more creativity in writing, this young romantic saga could have achieved more.”Rating: 3 stars out of 5.Times Now: “Overall, if you are a sucker for old-school romance and are ready to take a leap of faith with Nitin Kakkar’s narrative then Notebook is for you. It’s entertaining, has good music, good performances by the whole cast and captures the beauty of Kashmir quite eloquently.”Rating: 3 stars out of 5.Pinkvilla: “Very subtly, Notebook tries to show the plight of Kashmiris and the kids there who are made to confront the harsh realities of the region. But in the end, love triumphs everything. Though we appreciate the subtle message, the mention of Kashmiri Pandits and history of Kabir’s parents felt forced and unnecessary. Given the social age we live in, such love stories are hard to resonate with but nonetheless, for those who believe in destined love stories, Notebook might work for you!”Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5. read more
Meghan MarkleGetty ImagesThe Queen may be wary over the effect Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is having over Prince Harry. It is being claimed that Prince Harry is going along with Meghan Markle rather than the other way around. The recent announcement that Prince Harry will be working alongside Oprah Winfrey on a new documentary is being used as an example of the “Meghan-effect” on the Duke. The Queen “won’t approve” of Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey’s new partnership, a royal expert has claimed citing the “Meghan-effect” over the Duke. Of the collaboration, Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe warned: “These new charities and projects he’s got involved with the partnership with Oprah Winfrey is more evidence of ‘The Meghan Effect’.” Oprah Winfrey speaks after accepting the Cecil B. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are already trying to carve their own path in the Royal Family, much to the annoyance of the Queen. The increased influence of Hollywood celebrities within Royalty could further add to the Queen’s frustration. The royal journalist went as far as to suggest the Queen would not be best pleased because the move constitutes a “break from tradition” and the Queen is “a stickler for tradition.”Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child this month. Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday cited figures to suggest claims of Opposition candidates being prevented from filing nominations for the rural polls were exaggerated. Until now, 11 per cent uncontested seats – a “feat” achieved during the Left regime in 2003 – had been the highest for a rural poll in Bengal. Some political scientists feel that the quantum of uncontested seats – which means where the ruling party has won even before a single vote has been cast – will be around 30 per cent this time. Also Read – Heavy rain hits traffic, flights “The major Opposition parties have filed 74,000 nominations in 58,000 seats. If Independents and others are considered, the total number would reach 90,000. How can they say that they are being prevented from filing nominations?” Mamata asked. But a Calcutta-based political scientist said: “She has given the total number of nominations, but not the number of seats where the Opposition could file nominations…. In some areas, the Opposition parties filed nominations together and that’s why the count may look impressive. Mamata also swatted away the Opposition charge that violence led by the ruling party had resulted in a “breakdown of democracy”. According to her, the BJP organised people from Dumka in Jharkhand to create problems in Mohammedbazar in Birbhum while the trouble in Nalhati, also in the same district, was fabricated. read more

Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, one of Australia’s largest hotel franchise groups, has continued its great work with not-for-profit organisation Kids Under Cover, building a new studio that will allow a young person to return home and complete their schooling.Kids Under Cover’s mission is to provide young people at risk of homelessness with the tools to strengthen their connection to family, community and education. One of the ways they do this is through a studio build program, constructing one or two bedroom studio units in the backyards of family homes where there is a high risk of a young person leaving the family and becoming homeless.Whilst Kids Under Cover receives some government funding to support this program, with a demand to build over 60 studios each year, they are also very reliant on corporate partner donations.Choice Hotels Asia-Pac have been a long term supporter of Kids Under Cover and in August last year, during National Homeless Persons’ Week, all hotel franchisees donated $2 from every stay which allowed the organisation to raise over $50,000.This money was then used to fund a new studio for a family in Melbourne’s outer east, which has allowed a young person to return home to complete their studies after years of disruption. As well as raising funds for the new studio, more than 25 Choice Hotels Asia-Pac employees, franchisees and supply partners recently volunteered to work on site to assist with the build.Trent Fraser, CEO of Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, said, “We wanted to partner with an organisation where we could invest time and human resources, and more importantly see the results and outcomes of that investment. Kids Under Cover was a perfect fit for Choice given the nature of our business.”Three volunteers from Choice Hotels Asia-Pac head office were on site every day for two weeks under the watchful eye of professional builders.Jo Swift, CEO of Kids Under Cover, said, “Research has shown three-quarters of young people who experience homelessness progress to longer-term homelessness as adults.“Kids Under Cover aims to prevent this from occurring by providing young people with the space and security they need to grow into adulthood. We give them an opportunity to develop independent living skills, whilst remaining connected with their family.”“We are extremely grateful to Choice Hotels – their employees, franchisees and partners – who donated funds and time to help us build a studio that will change the life of an individual.”Matt Taylor, Choice Hotels Asia-Pac General Manager, Marketing, added, “We are proud of our partnership with Kids Under Cover and plan to build more studios in the future. Through the generosity of our franchisees and our team, we are honoured to work together to prevent youth homelessness.”Choice Hotels franchise partners will continue supporting this great cause, with plans already underway to fundraise again during National Homeless Persons’ Week in August. This should enable the build of another new studio in 2017. Kids Under Cover Source = Choice Hotels Asia-Pac read more

Saskatchewan premier draws ire for tweeting photo of car with Confederate flag AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email REGINA — Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he meant no offence by tweeting a photo of a “Dukes of Hazzard”-inspired car with the Confederate flag.Moe says he just wanted to promote the charitable work of the small village north of Saskatoon that will auction off a replica of the General Lee this Saturday. The proceeds are dedicated to the Saskatchewan division of the Canadian Mental Health Association. The premier’s tweet early Monday elicited a flurry of complaints from people pointing out that the red, white and blue stars-and-bars have become widely associated with racism and white supremacy.Moe says he doesn’t endorse the flag or what it symbolizes, but he does support the Parkside Community Club’s hard work raising funds for local organizations.Meanwhile, the mental health association is distancing itself from the auction with a five-minute video posted to Twitter and Facebook.Derby spokesman Kerry Peterson said organizers merely sought an authentic replica of the General Lee and did not mean to offend. He said last year’s auction featured a replica of Lightning McQueen from the “Cars” movies and the one before that had a car inspired by the Joker from Batman. But it was the premier who took much of the heat on Twitter with his post, which featured two photos of the distinctive vehicle from the ’80s show — about two joy-riding cousins from Georgia who routinely sent their 1969 Dodge Charger airborne while evading the sheriff. One photo displays the words “Canadian Mental Health Saskatchewan” in large capital letters on the trunk, just below the contentious flag.“Mr. Premier, you need to be leading the charge against racism. This isn’t leading anyone the right way,” wrote Twitter user @mathew6cc.Moe addressed the flap in an emailed statement Tuesday.“I shared these photos to support the Parkside Community Club’s longstanding effort to raise funds for local organizations, charities and families as well as to support the work of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Saskatchewan Division,” Moe said.“In doing so, it was certainly not my intention to offend anyone or to endorse the Confederate flag and what it symbolizes.”Phyllis O’Connor, executive director of the CMHA in Saskatchewan, said she only learned of the auction through the premier’s tweet.“We rely very heavily on community support and that’s a wonderful thing,” she said. “The problem was they didn’t come to us and tell us they were doing this and we certainly had no input into the theme.“One of our core values is inclusion. There is no room for racism, discrimination, hatred, none of that.”Peterson, who serves as the public announcer at the smash-and-crash event, said the annual tradition of auctioning off an iconic car began three years ago.Local merchants and car experts donate parts and labour to build a theme car that will draw top dollar, he said, noting this replica was fashioned out of a ’71 Chrysler Newport.“We want to do our part to help contribute and we weren’t looking to offend anybody,” said Peterson, dismissing any suggestion the car could be made without the flag. “We were just decorating our car.”He said the winning bidder could paint over the flag, but noted the car won’t be around long because it’s to be entered in the demolition derby where it would likely be destroyed.O’Connor said she was in talks with the event organizers and “could live with it” if the reference to the association was removed from the trunk before Saturday.“We don’t want to seem ungrateful for the hard work and energy that that little community put into supporting us,” she added. “It came from a good place.”— By Cassandra Szklarski in TorontoThe Canadian Press by The Canadian Press Posted Jul 24, 2019 7:12 am PDT ActorJohn Schnieder star of the 1980’s U.S. television show The Dukes of Hazzard, waves from the General Lee before the Kobalt Tools 500 auto race Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga.
