Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, one of Australia’s largest hotel franchise groups, has continued its great work with not-for-profit organisation Kids Under Cover, building a new studio that will allow a young person to return home and complete their schooling.Kids Under Cover’s mission is to provide young people at risk of homelessness with the tools to strengthen their connection to family, community and education. One of the ways they do this is through a studio build program, constructing one or two bedroom studio units in the backyards of family homes where there is a high risk of a young person leaving the family and becoming homeless.Whilst Kids Under Cover receives some government funding to support this program, with a demand to build over 60 studios each year, they are also very reliant on corporate partner donations.Choice Hotels Asia-Pac have been a long term supporter of Kids Under Cover and in August last year, during National Homeless Persons’ Week, all hotel franchisees donated $2 from every stay which allowed the organisation to raise over $50,000.This money was then used to fund a new studio for a family in Melbourne’s outer east, which has allowed a young person to return home to complete their studies after years of disruption. As well as raising funds for the new studio, more than 25 Choice Hotels Asia-Pac employees, franchisees and supply partners recently volunteered to work on site to assist with the build.Trent Fraser, CEO of Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, said, “We wanted to partner with an organisation where we could invest time and human resources, and more importantly see the results and outcomes of that investment. Kids Under Cover was a perfect fit for Choice given the nature of our business.”Three volunteers from Choice Hotels Asia-Pac head office were on site every day for two weeks under the watchful eye of professional builders.Jo Swift, CEO of Kids Under Cover, said, “Research has shown three-quarters of young people who experience homelessness progress to longer-term homelessness as adults.“Kids Under Cover aims to prevent this from occurring by providing young people with the space and security they need to grow into adulthood. We give them an opportunity to develop independent living skills, whilst remaining connected with their family.”“We are extremely grateful to Choice Hotels – their employees, franchisees and partners – who donated funds and time to help us build a studio that will change the life of an individual.”Matt Taylor, Choice Hotels Asia-Pac General Manager, Marketing, added, “We are proud of our partnership with Kids Under Cover and plan to build more studios in the future. Through the generosity of our franchisees and our team, we are honoured to work together to prevent youth homelessness.”Choice Hotels franchise partners will continue supporting this great cause, with plans already underway to fundraise again during National Homeless Persons’ Week in August. This should enable the build of another new studio in 2017. Kids Under Cover Source = Choice Hotels Asia-Pac
